Sound Storm Laboratories SVA4 Video Signal Amplifier Single video Source Input 4 video Outputs
A video amplifier can be a useful addition to a mobile entertainment system utilizing multiple video monitors. The SVA4 allows you to send a video signal to as many as four monitors without suffering the symptoms of a weakened or deteriorated signal including poor picture quality or even a blank screen. Additionally, since individual monitors have different signal strength requirements, the SVA4 also has a signal amplification adjustment for each line. This allows for fine tuning of each individual monitor, so that it runs at its optimum level of performance. As another reviewer has mentioned, this unit is designed to be used in a car, since it’s designed for 12 volts DC. (I guess I’m too old for this stuff. As if booming 800W car stereos aren’t enough, are people outfitting their cars with a DVD player for every seat now?) But that doesn’t mean you can’t use it at home as we are.
In our case, we have a home surveillance system using a dedicated DVR. The DVR has baseband (i.e. “video”) output that we send to various LCD monitors throughout the house. It’s a big house with lots of electrical wiring and other signal cables in the attic. We’re using a converter box Kworld 1680EX LCD Tv Tuner Box Support HD 1080I High Quality Image to convert the signal to VGA. Even tho we’re using RG-6 Quad everywhere, after the splitters and all, there was some signal degradation, and I needed an inexpensive baseband amplifier to boost the signal strength. This does the trick!
I don’t know the S/N figures, but it seems clean. You can adjust the output level, which is helpful for good vertical sync. (Install the amp right after the signal source for lowest noise.) I asked our professional installer how much industry amps cost. He said the last one he bought was about $200.
If you don’t have a 12 volt power supply or wall wart handy, you can tap your UPS battery for power. (You are using a UPS on your surveillance system, right?) Inputs and outputs are all RCA, so you may need BNC to RCA adapters in a professional surveillance system.
There is a similar unit Boss Audio BV-AM5 Video Signal Amplifier that appears to be exactly the same thing, just rebranded and with a different housing. The price on the Boss is cheaper, but there’s no free shipping with it. We’re more comfortable buying direct from Amazon and since we bought two Soundstorms, the free shipping made the price difference a wash.
First off, I didn’t really know what to expect going in. I had read another review saying this ran off of DC power, but I was not really sure what this meant. When I received the package, it had two wires for power cables. Woah. Luckily, I tinker with this sort of thing, and recalled taking apart an old Airsoft Gun battery charger. Even more lucky, it was a 12v DC to AC adapter that charged my gun! How lucky! With a few snips, I scrapped the old charger, and with a little electrical tape, rigged up a make-shift power source. After that, this product works splendidly. The quality of the output is great, although it takes a little tinkering with these “quality knobs” above each output. Set-up time with the whole power source ordeal was about 15 minutes. Well worth the time, as I can now record video from my XBOX 360 without having to play off a laptop screen! Recommended for those with minor electrical knowledge.
We are using this in a multi-screen church application.
The amplifier did a great job AFTER our electronics tech completely retrofitted it with an adapter (via solder) to allow it to run on AC power. The online descrption does NOT indicate that it is made for use in 12v DC auto applications and will not work on AC power without new splices, an AC convertor, and soldering.
excellent product. I searched all over my city for one before I went on the internet and found one. Excellent quality and great price thanks
So I got this and it’s not the product shown. It does work well though so I don’t have any complaints. It has adjustable gain and provides the power necessary to power the 6 Monitors that I have in the truck.
Las condiciones del producto insuperables, amazon.com cumple con los envios muy seriamente, no tengo quejas sobre este producto o su distribuidor
The video output port of my Sony DVD 5-disc player was too week to
support more than one device at a time. With the Video Signal Amplifier
I have strong video to my DVD recorder and my TV.
