The price was better on Amazon. I bought for my Sirus so that I would be able to get maximum use of my subscription. Great sound, great reception, couldn’t be easier to use.

  2. Gyan K Says:

I bought this for my boyfriend for Valentines Day. He is seriously into music and I bought him a Sirius Radio for Christmas and wanted something like this for in the house. We love it and for the money the sound is great. I read in the reviews prior to buying it that it is base heavy for talk radio. My boyfriend listens to A LOT of talk radio and he says it is a little heavy on base, but nothing that is distracting or distorting.

The other small problem initially was trying to get a signal. The antenna needed to be outside the window and we needed to find just the right place or the signal would go in and out. It is now in the right spot and we have no signal problems.

The only things we would change are: make the bass and treble adjustable and have a stronger antenna. We definitely would recommend it to a friend.

  3. Jane Hatfield Says:

This plug and play radio was easy to set up, the cord for the antenna is long enough to reach any window area and plays a nice rich consistent sound. If you want to be able to listen to your radio outside your car, and have the options to adjust bass and treble, invest in a higher priced model. If you want to get more use out of your subscription without breaking the budget, this is an excellent way to do it.

I must admit that the only thing I knew about satellite radio was that I wanted one. When I recently saw the new Sirius “Snap” advertised on TV, I immediately purchased one (This is the one you simply plug into your cigarette lighter of your vehicle). This receiver works fine if your car radio has an audio input jack but otherwise broadcasts the signal through your FM radio speakers if you do not have such a jack. Sometimes there is interference and you have to experiment with different FM frequencies to find the right combination (not easy if you live in northern NJ, as I do.)

Since I spend very little time in my car, I felt that I needed a way to use the “Snap” at home to get full value from my subscription. I subsequently purchased the SUBX2 and rigged the “Snap” receiver to this boombox (using an inexpensive 120V to 12V transformer) Sunforce AC/DC Power Converter). I can now use it both indoors and out. It works perfectly, the sound is great and I can transfer it to the car anytime I please (and bypass the car FM radio by connecting the “Snap” directly to the SUBX2., while in the car) Also, I need only one Sirius subscription.

If anyone wants to use this configuration in a vehicle, you will need 2 power outlets in your vehicle, one for the receiver, the other fo the SUBX2. Please consider the Type S AC01998-60/6M 12V Triple Socket, Charcoal Grey. This device sits in your cup holder, provides 3 power outlets, acts to stabilize the setup and takes any strain off the dashboard power outlet. Also, I just purchased Sennheiser HD 202 Dynamic Headphones to connect to the SUBX2 and enjoy the music in my home without annoying anyone.

Knowing what I know now, I probably would have purchased a Sirius Sportster 5 and docked it to the SUBX2, which is a normal configuration. Nevertheless, I am perfectly happy with the present setup and couldn’t be happier with the quality and sound. As always, Amazon’s service, delivery and price were outstanding.

  5. Steve Dobson Says:

The unit works as advertised. It is a bit cumbersome with the antenna wire and power cord. When you get all 8 D batteries in it, you could use it to do lifting exercise.

  6. Lisa Angelettie Says:

The first one I ordered was preowned, like new and did not work.Amazon refunded everything so Big Kudos here for taking care of consumers.I then purchased (for 10 bucks more)a brand new unit.Being this was a birthday present for my other half I only checked if it powered up properly and not the sound. All was well and when I gave it to her and connected her Sportster5 to it we were extremely surprised by the depth of the sound which is helped by the subwoofer. We enjoyed an evening of Margaritaville which has a nice mix of music to judge the quality of this piece. The sound is amazing and it is pleasant to look at.As for ease of operation:we did not even have to run the antenna anywhere, just left it on the cradle on the back and had fantastic reception.Mind you we live downtown Miami 15th floor surrounded by higher buildings that should block the signal, but no problems here as other people have complained about this before.

  7. David Bain Says:

Good sound and reception, well worth the price, and helps you get the full benifit of Sirus outside and inside.
I had ordered this from Sirus site, they screwed up the order, and they have major billing issues.
Amazon is the only place to buy from the web

  8. Fran Mullens Says:

Better just go buy a new faceplate cause the old model of this boombox is a lot more money. Old boombox has a tid bit more bass but this one is just fine. Everyone complains about having a bass and treb tuning knob. Would be nice but it’s still good. Retractable handle and stylish look. I take it to the mountains for camping trips and to the beach.

  9. Esther Campbell Says:

Purchased for my wife for Mother’s day. She loves her sirius radio and has the car and home docks. She wanted portability for beach, out door fun etc. and is excited about this system. Good quality and the antenna (similar to the home dock) works well has a cord storage system and was picking up from the inside of the breakfast nook through the sliding doors.

  10. Garrett Butch Says:

I work at an animal shelter and bring this boombox with me to mask out the animal noise. It is great because I usually do not get any type of radio wave in the shelter so I set the antenna out the window and the boombox inside and it works great. I also use it at home and in my garage. I think the workmanship of the product is shoty. The handle broke off after carrying it back and forth from home to work for a month and the power cord has just recently stopped working due to the fact it split by the switching adapter. My radio does get used more often than most I’m sure and travels more but I would expect it to last longer than a few months. When it does work though it is great.

  11. John Michel Cane Says:

Ok, I bought this at the same time as my Stratus 6. A new Siruis customer. I am very impressed with the sound and ease of use. My overall rate of 4 stars would have been a 5 if it was not for the usual complaint of haveing no audio controls(treble, bass, etc). Of course for me on a plus side I do not have to worry about customizing audio settings to different songs or music genres. Overall they did a great job on sound. Others complain about battery life, I have not used it on batteries enough to change them yet.

  12. Kristin Abouelata Says:

We bought this item specifically to use in the yard for BBqs etc. For that it works great goes very loud clear and good reception. We live in Satetn Island and getting reception in the house for anything is difficult (Including cell phones)so it is what i expected.

  13. Daniel MHall Says:

just ok for the price….no aux out jack…..i have the Xact unit for sirius satellite and it’s cheaper, sounds at least as good, has an aux out jack, mp3 cd player and can be used for any sirius receiver…..Xact customer service is terrible but their stuff not bad….

  14. Crystal Robertson Says:

We checked this item out at other stores and it was twice the price. We love it! The sound is excellent and it is so easy to insert the radio or remove it. Good find on amazon!

  15. Andrew Grey Says:

This was a gift for my father-in-law. He really likes using it when he runs on the treadmill and when he is outside working in the yard. I think the product is good quality and the price is nice. Best Buy wanted $180 for the same thing here in Wisconsin.

  16. Jennie Crawford Says:

I bought this to use with the new Sportster 5 I had just purchased to use at work. I could not believe how loud it was, I work in a very loud distribution center where it is difficult to hear radios but this worked perfectly. It is a little wide but it is worth purchasing if you are looking for a good sturdy radio. Only downside is that you cannot change treble or bass but with the great sound that comes out of this radio it doesn’t really matter. You can’t see it in the pictures but it has a great sturdy handle that makes it easy to carry the radio around. Purchase this radio and you will not be disappointed.

  17. Amit Bhalla Says:

Bought this item to go with a Sirius Sportster 5. Easy to use. Sound is good. I have used it in the car while traveling as well as inside my house. Works well as long as the antenna is positioned near a window or on the dash. (Antenna cable has plenty of length.) This product has met my expectations/needs.

  18. Mohamed Tohami Says:

I bought this recently in a bundle with the Sportster 5 receiver to replace an eight year old system. Price was excellent and quality, in comparison to what I had, is excellent. The first generation Sirius radios sounded like old AC Delco AM radios – no tonal quality and tinny. This has a small subwoofer, so it is nice to get actual bass response.

  19. Ian I. Says:

Purchased this boom box after getting a Starmate 6 receiver to replace an old Sportster model. The boom box works fine and was delivered promptly. However, as soon as it was connected to the new receiver the problems started. After multiple, very frustrating calls to Sirius, it was determined that a Stratus 6 receiver and apparently many or all newer receivers will not transmit an FM signal to other generic radios when connected to any boom box. They have been engineered in some way to only have this feature in the car mounts. The only logic to this seems to be it forces the customer to purchase and subscribe with multiple receivers if you want to listen to Sirius in more than one place in the home.
Buyer beware. If you have this feature now, it may not be available if you replace your current receiver and Sirius does not mention this in any manual and their Tech Support people are definitely clueless.

  20. Jordan Gottlieb Says:

I purchased this as a Christmas gift and so far it has been a hit. The sound quality has been good, now the real test will be when it warms up and we can take it outside. Nothing but good comments so far.

  21. Thomas Wheelwright Says:

I am a sound snob, and I really like this unit for the price. Keep in mind that it’s not a high end unit, and you can’t adjust the bass or treble. But for around $100 it’s great.

Also, it’s nice to be able to connect an I Pod or Sirius receiver. For those who complain about the antena, relax. All Sirius antenas need to be place optimally for good reception. read the owner’s manual and figure it out.

I wish I bought this sooner.

  22. Bob Maines Says:

I have a Starmate 5 portable plug-n-play Sirius receiver, and I have docking stations for the home, car, and boat. I bought this “boom-box” so that I could take the receiver to the beach, on a picnic, and so on.

The nice thing about a portable receiver such as the Starmate 5 is you take the license with you, so you do not have to purchase a subscription for each location (home, car, boat, beach) you want to take it.

The boom box works great as an addition to the “system”.

The boom box also has a 3.5mm phono jack for an auxilliary input, so I can also use an iPod as well. The unit will set you back a few dollars when purchasing batteries, but they seem to last for awhile. And you can use an AC adapter, which keeps battery draw down, and is typically used at the backyard barbecue.

The antenna holder could be a bit better though, which is why I gave it a 4 rather than a 5. It simply sits on the unit by friction fit. The holder also interferes with the main handle of the unit as well. I would have liked to see a permanently installed antenna (with provisions to rotate it), rather than what is used.

  23. Tan KC Says:

This boombox has a dedicated subwoofer for deep bass lines but no way to adjust the tone or bass. It kind of annoys me when I’m listening to talk radio like Howard Stern because the voices are often muffled sounding with the bass. Also when you listen to hip hop with the strong bass tracks, the radio sounds and feels like its going to break unless you turn down the volume. Would be better if it had separate bass controls. Sirius SubX1 is a better radio.

  24. Natalie Ekberg Says:

Apart from the limitations inherent in satellite radio (signal strength and antenna placement) this is a good little boom box. Easily portable, light in weight, and visually not too clunky looking. The sound is very good. I’ve not tried it with batteries yet, so I can’t speak to the duration of operation on batteries alone. Ideally, the box would have a longer power cord. In all, a good addition to my home electronics.

  25. Thaddeus Kane Says:

Now I can enjoy my satellite radio all the time and I’m loving it. Audiovox Sirius Subx2 is a great buy; very easy to use, just took it out of the box, attached my satellite radio and started enjoying in my music in my home. Simple to pop the receiver in and out of the boom box and back to my car. Can’t wait to bring this system with me on vacation to the beach so we can enjoy music while enjoying the beach as well. Great purchase!
